These start out as government issue machetes before we inspect them and then heavily modify them to fix their shortcomings and to make them more useful tool. This model is a several inches longer than our other model and works very well as a traditional machete for cutting vines and vegetation.
The blades are 1/8" thick 1095 high carbon steel and made in the USA. We modify the tip of the machete by dropping the the tip and bringing the spine down to meet it. The bevels are reground with a convex grind to get both a stronger and sharper edge. The cutting edge is brought all the way down to the handle scales. The spine is squared off to easily strike a ferro rod.
The handle area is cut and reprofiled for comfort and a much larger, two handed gripping area. The machete can be gripped with either two hands or used with one hand in multiple different positions. Micarta scales are contoured and media blasted rough for plenty of grip. They are attached with Corby bolts and 2 ton epoxy for a lifetime fit.
The machete includes a pancake style kydex sheath made of HD .093 material. It is a major upgrade over the flimsy GI sheaths and allows a multiple carry configurations with aftermarket clips.
The blades are phosphate coated from the factory but all of them have slight irregularities or minor scuffs in the finish from shipping/transport.
